Department of Radiology Overview
This department is a group made up mainly of doctors at HIBMC. They examine new patients referred by primary care physicians and decide upon the optimal method of treatment. Prior to the start of treatment, they explain the treatment details, the expected effects of the treatment, and any possible side effects.
Based on the diagnosis from CT scans and MRI imaging studies, a simulation is performed using a specialized computer to determine the range and direction of particle beam irradiation (similar to performing surgeries) and prescribe the dose (similar to anticancer drug treatment). This is called particle beam radiation therapy planning. It is a joint operation of the examining radiological technician and medical physicists.
During the course of particle beam radiation therapy, we examine the patient,
and if there are any side effects, we will fully respond to them and ensure
that the therapy is carried out as planned.
After the particle beam radiation therapy is completed, the nurse in charge of follow-up teams up with staff at the referring hospital to jointly observe the patient's progress.
Additionally, we have clinical laboratory technicians, researchers, medical office staff, and technical assistants to assist as a team in examination and research.
